Sleepless nights

Did you know that Bach supposedly composed the Goldberg Variations BWV 988 for Johann Gottlieb Goldberg? This was because Goldberg’s employer Count Kaiserling could never sleep when he visited Leipzig. To soothe his employer’s insomnia, Goldberg often had to play clavier pieces for him, to lift his spirits on these sleepless nights. Bach wrote the Variations, and they worked! ‘Dear Goldberg, do play me one of my variations…’

I think this origin is quite unlikely! But it is still one of those beautiful music legends that are created through time and passed on from generation to generation.

I am so excited to begin my Goldberg Project and share this wonderful music with you all.
