Review of my Goldbergs by Derby Telegraph

Here are some snippets from a Derby Telegraph review of my performance of Bach’s Goldberg Variations. It was so lovely to revisit the splendid Cathedral. I’m glad so many people turned up for the performance, and enjoyed it so thoroughly!

‘…an engaging dance feel, right from the opening Aria, invested with both a sarabande’s gravity and a minuet’s elegance…
…Elsewhere, the racing figuration of Variations 1 and 5 were set playfully spinning; the virtuoso skittering dialogue between the two hands in No 14 was a delight, and the similar textures of Variation 29 were a sheer torrent of energy…
… culminating in a deeply expressive account of the minor-key No 25…
At the end of it all, the Aria emerged with a new degree of serenity, as though changed by its experiences.’

Derby Telegraph, 6 July 2016

I am looking forward to returning to Derby to perform in November. More details to come!
