Reiko’s Ensembles

Reiko Rehearsal Nov 2013-185a

Principals of Sound

“I suggested the idea of the Principals of Sound with the oboist John Anderson. Pianists often play with stringed instruments, but I like that woodwind sound with the piano – it’s beautifully smooth and easy to listen to. Click here for more

Ensemble Tōzai

I set up Ensemble Tōzai for the Japan 2001 Festival. The idea was to allow for collaboration between western and Japanese instruments. We have a piano and violin as well as Japanese taiko percussion and a  Japanese flute, the shakuhachi. The repertoire includes some  very traditional Japanese music but we  also perform contemporary works by English and Japanese composers  and have commissioned music from Gavin Bryars. Other collaborations

In 2013 I approached the violinist Ofer Falk about creating a piano trio with members of the Allegri Quartet. I like Ofer’s playing. So far our repertoire consists of the Tchaikovsky trio, which is dramatic and challenging, and we’re working on some Brahms”. Click here for more
